Author’s Agreement

1. In accordance with the Executive Committee of the Association of American Law Schools’ policy of favoring the broad use of law review articles for educational purposes, «AutTitle» «AutFirst» «AutMid» «AutLast» (the “Author(s)”) hereby assigns to the University of Colorado Law Review the following rights encompassed by the Author’s copyright to “«Article»,” (the “Work”) which is to be published in Volume «Volume», Issue «Issue», of the University of Colorado Law Review:

The right to allow copies of the Work to be made for classroom use in any public or private institution of learning, including reprints in a Casebook, provided that: (1) copies are distributed at or below cost; (2) the author and the University of Colorado Law Review are identified; (3) proper notice of copyright is affixed to each copy; (4) notice of the use is given the University of Colorado Law Review in any manner desired by the University of Colorado Law Review. The right to first serial publication of the Work, with the assurance that the Work will not appear in another serial publication (including internet serial publications) within one (1) year of the date of publication in the University of Colorado Law Review. The right to authorize reproduction companies, such as Westlaw, Lexis, William S. Hein & Co., Hein-on-Line, UnCover and ProQuest Information and Learning, to make reprints of the article available to interested readers. (Inclusion on the Author’s personal website for the same purpose is allowed at any time). The right to authorize scholars to quote from the Work, provided that the quotation does not exceed five printed pages of the article as it appears in Volume «Volume» of the University of Colorado Law Review. 2. The Author(s) warrant(s) that:

The Author(s) is (are) the only author(s) of the Work and has (have) the full power and authority to grant the rights described in Section 1. The textual and graphic content of the Work does not infringe any copyright or property right of any other person. The Work does not contain any matter that is libelous, unlawful, or invades another’s right of privacy.

Student Author Agreement


Agreement between «AutFirst» «AutMid» «AutLast» (the “Author(s)”) and of the University of Colorado Law Review, regarding the publication of “«Article»,” in Volume «Volume», Issue «Issue».

     I. Prior to publication of the article, the author warrants the following: 

1. The author will participate fully in the editorial process such that the article is ready for publication by the due date issued by the University of Colorado Law Review Board of Editors. If, after the second "switch" of articles three or more Board members agree that the article is not publishable and that reasonable progress toward publication has not been demonstrated, the University of Colorado Law Review reserves the right to refuse publication of the article. The Board of Editors warrants that it will work with the author in good faith and provide feedback throughout the editorial process, such that the author will be notified of significant problems before the second “switch.”

2. The content of the article, conceptual, textual and graphical, is solely the work of the author, or is properly attributed, and does not infringe on any copyright or property right of another person or institution. If the work is found to be in violation of this section, the article will not be published and the Editor-in-Chief of the University of Colorado Law Review will report the author's actions to the president of the Student Bar Association pursuant to the University of Colorado School of Law honor code.


     II. Upon publication of the article, the University of Colorado Law Review reserves the following rights: 

1. The right to allow copies of “«Article»” to be copied for classroom use in any public or private institution of learning, including reprints in a casebook, provided that: (1) copies are distributed at or below cost; (2) the author and the University of Colorado Law Review are identified; (3) proper notice of copyright is affixed to each copy; (4) notice of the use is given to the University of Colorado Law Review in any manner directed by the editorial board.

2. The right to authorize reproduction companies, including but not limited to Westlaw, Lexis, Hein-on-Line, William S. Hein & Co., UnCover, ProQuest Information and Learning, to make reprints of the article available to interested readers.  Inclusion on an author's personal website for the same purpose is allowed at all times.
3. The right to authorize scholars to quote from the article provided that the quote does not exceed five printed pages of the article as it appears in Volume «Volume», Issue «Issue»of the University of Colorado Law Review.  The author must also give permission for reprints of quotes that exceed five printed pages as formatted by the University of Colorado Law Review for any use other than in the classroom.
